I've been following a local story about a man that hired someone to kill his pregnant wife while he was out of town. The hired hitman didn't kill her as planned. Instead he waited for her in her home (talk about freaking someone out) and told her that her husband wanted her dead (additional freaking out material.) Here's the real kicker. That husband was going to pay the hitman $2500 to kill the 8 month pregnant woman. What? A measley $2500? Cody and I had a discussion last night about how much we thought a murder-for-hire would cost. I thought 50,000 was low. Cody thought that was probably a reasonable amount (in the eyes of a hitman, of course, not in his eyes since neither of us approve of murder.) But $2500 is simply ridiculous. I can't imagine:
a. anyone being willing to kill someone for such a low amount
b. the shock the wife felt upon learning what a cheap amount her husband offered for her life- actually two lives...he faces attempted murder counts on her and the baby.
I think I've seen a movie where a guy hired a hitman to kill his wife and when he went to do it, the wife asked how much her husband was paying and offered to double that if the hitman killed her husband instead. I think that's a warning to all would-be hirers of hitmen. Now, my tone has been somewhat casual, but this story really did bother me. It doesn't make me nervous for myself (even though I am about 8 months pregnant, and Cody just left town for two days...). It just makes me angry and sad that this kind of evil and disregard for the sanctity of life exists.

Yes, it is sad and sick but at least the hitman actually got a conscience on this one. Not sure what a man with a conscience is doing being a hitman but maybe he has turned his life around. At least we have that to be thankful for in this terrible situation. Nothing like having trouble trusting again after the person she probably trusted most in this world tried to have her killed.
