Nightmare

I wish I were dreaming, but this is unfortunately real. Beginning today, driving to and from and parking at my house is going to be a nightmare. The city is replacing the street. It is not the street our house faces, but it is the street on the side of our driveway. This means no parking in the garage for 3 months. The entire project is predicted as 5 1/2 months long. They are tearing up one side of the street at a time (lucky us- our side is first.) At least I can park in front of my house. I feel really bad for the people in the middle of the street. I have no idea where they will park, and they will undoubtedly have a long hike from their car to their house every single time they go somewhere. Just parking in front of the house is bad enough. I had to do it for 2 weeks recently when our driveway was replaced and I hated every minute of it. It's not easy to get 2 preschoolers, a baby, and all our stuff to the van in one load. Then figure in rain, cold weather, and whatever else we'll be facing. It may even be hard to find a parking place in front of the house if the entire side of our street is trying to find a place for their cars. Besides the difficulty in parking, there is going to be noise! Heavy machinery, loud trucks and the like while I'm trying to get my baby to nap. What a pain! I know, in the scheme of life this is rather trivial, and certainly not life-threatening. But it is annoying. Right now I look out my living room window to see about 5 tons of gravel in huge piles right by our sidewalk. So, if you come to visit me, you may need to take some different streets depending on which way the one-way traffic on our street happens to be headed that day!

I'm sorry! This has to be especially hard knowing that you had to go through it with your driveway!!

I'm actually a little jealous. Tonight I was online trying to figure out how they can replace our alleyway. It's TERRIBLE! I'm watching everyone else's get repaired, and I'm wanting it to be me.

Street renovations are so nice once finished, but boy is it a pain in the mean time! Hope it goes as smoothly as possible for your neighborhood.
