Camping Party

Ava made up her mind months ago that she wanted a camping party for her birthday. I was not sure how to pull it off exactly. They don't really make camping themed party goods. And I certainly don't have any expertise or vast knowledge about camping. I've only been once in my life. Even as a camping novice, I do know, however, that s'mores are the backbone of any good camping experience. Thus, the party began with making s'mores around a good old-fashioned campfire.

Then we took a "nature walk" around the backyard to collect leaves. We made nature rubbings with the leaves using crayons and paper. After that, it was time for cake!

Then Ava opened her presents, one of which was a hammock. Lucas enjoyed trying it out.

It was a fun day. Ava and her friends had a good time. Now we get to do this all over again next weekend when Lucas turns 2! He's having a train party with a few little friends. Sometime between now and then, I expect my nephew to be born...the very first cousin for my kids! So from now on, this particular week of the year from Jan-30-Feb 8 will be known as "the birthday explosion blow-out jam-packed never-ending party event of the year." And I'm going to love every minute of it...

Well, Miss Ava sure looked like she enjoyed it - so that makes it a super-success! I love the beautiful cake. I am sorry you weren't able to talk throughout it.

Good luck with the train party! Have fun!

That's how we are in July. It's my birthday on July 21, My grandad's on the 22nd and my cousins on the 27th. We had a big party for my grandad's 80th birthday this year and he even got that many candles! We thought we would burn the house down. It was fun!

What a GREAT party...and cake! I've never thought of a camping party before but leave it to Ava to come up with something so unique and fun! And you executed her good idea so well.

What a love about the party is that you just took her camping for the first time, and she loved it so much she wanted it to be the theme of her birthday party. What a special mommy you are. You just never know what is going to make a difference in their lives. I am so ready for my kids to get big enough to go camping. You did an awesome job. I can't believe you stressed about what to do for the party. You are one of the most creative people I know. You do so much better than what any store would have to offer.
