Summer has started off with a bang around here. And I was worried we wouldn't find enough to keep us busy...seems silly now. All three kids are taking daily swim lessons. But, we're having an issue with Ava and especially Nate because the pool where they swim was recently resurfaced and is apparently extremely rough. They grip the side a lot when they are listening to the instructor or waiting their turn. As a result, their fingers are getting shredded. After his lesson yesterday, two of Nate's fingers were bleeding and the rest were bright red at the tips. Today he had to stop his lesson 5 minutes early because blood was streaming from about half of his fingers. A lifeguard had to bandage him as I pieced together what was causing this to happen. I still don't have a good solution about it either. I think some sort of glove might work, or at least a band aid on every finger before the lesson.
I'm running another 5K this Saturday morning. My main goals, in random order:
don't trip and fall down, finish under 40 minutes, don't cry.
So basically I'm hoping for the opposite of
my first 5K a month ago. I'm feeling pretty good about it. I've been running a fairly consistent 12 1/2 minute mile lately.
I've also just planned a little trip to Midland and Carlsbad to visit family and see Carlsbad Caverns. Because my grandparents have lived in Carlsbad my entire life, I've visited those caverns a dozen times. I can't wait to share them with the kids. I remember them as pretty awesome, and though sometimes things aren't as cool as you thought they were in childhood, I am optimistic about this.

I think maybe a glove would work. I can't belive the pool is so rough...that stinks.
Good luck on the 5K! You will do great!
And I'll bet Carlsbad Caverns will be awesome for the kids just as they were to you when you were a kid. Should be fun.
I haven't been to your blog in FOREVER, so let's start off by saying I like your new picture. You look thin. Running will do that. 2nd I would like to say when I started training for my first marathon (26.2 miles) my first training run out, I didn't make it a mile before I was laid out on the ground, and puking. I too have had my upper body go faster than my feet which usually results in falling on your face. It all takes a little bit of time to get going. At any rate I think your stick-to-itiveness (sp?) is inspiring! Just run your own race, and don't worry about other people in or out of the race. You know if you are making progress and if you are, then you are winning. Did I mention you look good in the new picture?
